PSHE Day Wednesday 7th March
PSHE Day
Wednesday 7th March saw Cove School hold its second successful PSHE Day. The school opened its doors to a variety of visitors, all with a different story to tell. Years 10 and 11 received a talk from two Olympic Gold Medallists, Kate and Helen, who talked about their journey and encouraged students to work hard to achieve their goals and dreams. They heard a talk from The Terrance Higgins Foundation who talked about the misconceptions associated with HIV and how to keep yourself safe. They also had sessions about Organ Donation, Human rights, Self-Examination and Sex and Relationships. The day provided a different perspective on life, one student even wrote that the day was good ‘because we learnt about the deeper parts of life.’
This is an account written by Joe Christman, The Head Boy in year 11:
‘It was probably the most informative event I’ve ever been to and I gained a wealth of knowledge from the great visitors that were invited into the school.’
Year 9 had a great day delivered by the Higher Education Outreach Network. They were able to participate in a variety of workshops including Mental Health and Resilience, Apprenticeships and Higher Education, Law and Media and exploring possible careers.
This is an account written by Storme Dunford in year 9:
‘I thought this was a really well planned day and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It also presented us with various different ideas for the future and I am sure I speak for everyone when I saw that we all learnt something from the experience. Thank you to all the staff who made this day happen and all the visitors for coming and giving us a chance to think about our future and what we want to do with it.’
This is an account written by Yudian Rana in year 9:
‘The PSHE day was very interesting and a useful experience. I liked how there were students from the University of Surrey and you could ask any questions. Some of the activities such as ‘The Strawberry Experience’ were fun and helpful.’
Year 8 also had a great day exploring different careers options. They were lucky enough to hear a talk from Sumit Singh from Accenture who delivered a session about body language and communication skills, a talk from some current college students about their college experiences, Team building, Engineering and many more. It was a jam packed day!
This is an account written by a student in year 8:
‘I think the PSHE was good because it taught us a lot about our future but unfortunately there were so many interesting activities and not enough time in the day!’
Year 7 left the school site on an adventure to Kidzania in London. Throughout the day they took on different job roles including that of a Dentist, Engineer, Courier, Vet, TV Presenter and many more! Students behaved impeccably and were a credit to the school. Please have a look at some of the great pictures!
