#Cove School 16 March

The Cove Art department is proud to introduce our Golden Easel, now taking pride of place in Reception! Oliver R (Year 8) has been awarded the Golden Easel for his outstanding artwork. His pepper fineliner drawing demonstrates confident and expressive mark-making, showing excellent control and attention to detail. This was followed by beautifully smooth, carefully layered watercolour work, revealing a strong understanding of tone, depth, and technique. Oliver’s creativity, patience, and dedication to refining his skills truly stood out, making his work a pleasure to view. A well-deserved achievement. Well done, Oliver!

As part of our whole school World Poetry Day Celebrations, year 7 students were treated to a fantastic interactive poetry presentation by Adisa the Verbaliser. Adisa gave a very lively, fun and inspirational presentation to all students followed by poetry workshops where students had the opportunity to create their own pieces of poetry. The event was a wonderful celebration of poetry that inspired students to express themselves creatively and appreciate the art of spoken word.

Last night, our Shakespeare's School students took to the stage at The Haymarket Theatre in Basingstoke and delivered a wonderful performance of The Tempest. They were a real credit to our school and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Thank you to all who took part and supported. We're very much looking forward to CSSF 2027!

As part of our whole school National Careers Week activities students attended a series of informative career pathway assemblies. Thank you to all of our visitors who gave insightful presentations providing insights into their own careers and lots of information on various study pathways and the wider world of work, helping to inspire and show students what's possible for their future after Cove School. This week Year 8 students enjoyed a fascinating assembly delivered by Steve Eadon from Mingalaba https://www.mingalaba.co.uk, exploring careers that combine football and languages. Steve shared his personal journey with languages - from studying them at school and university to using them professionally while working for Arsenal FC and beyond. He spoke about how language skills have enabled him to travel the world, collaborate with high‑profile players, and take on exciting roles within the football industry. He also encouraged students to consider the wide range of careers, both within football and in other sectors, where languages can open doors and create unique opportunities.

As part of our whole school World Book Day Celebrations, author Andy Briggs came into school and gave a very lively and interactive presentation to all year 7 and 8 students. Andy spoke about his books and how he gets his inspiration for his work, students were able to ask questions and speak to Andy about his career as an author. Thank you to Andy for visiting Cove school on World Book Day!

Year 7's have now completed Choices workshops. They are innovative programmes commissioned by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Violence Reduction Unit and delivered by Artswork in partnership with BearFace Theatre, Choices uses creative techniques to help young people navigate the challenges they are facing in their lives. The workshops work in conjunction with topics Yr7 have recently covered in PSHE.

Lost Property: We have added a page to our website dedicated to our ever growing lost property! Please visit https://www.coveschool.uk/our-community/lost-property If you recognise any of the items below, or on our website, please contact us on 01252 542397 or get your child to visit Health and Welfare, during their break or lunchtime, to retrieve their item. Items will be kept until the end of term before being recycled or donated to Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice. Please ensure all items (especially clothing) has the student's name written, printed or labelled so they can be returned easily. Any unnamed uniform, will be held for a short period of time before being donated to our Behaviour Hut.

World Book Day tokens will be distributed to all students over the next week which can be used to purchase a book from any participating book shops and some supermarkets to help celebrate World Book Day on 5th March! Happy Reading!

Year 11's are busy taking their second round of GCSE mock exams, starting this week, and were in a masterclass this morning prior to their English Language exam. Mr Attwood was highlighting key skills and techniques to help students approach their reading and writing tasks with confidence and precision, ensuring everyone felt prepared and ready to succeed. These Masterclasses are being held before each exam to help prepare and focus the students.

Welcome back to our Spring term! hopefully a much drier and brighter term to lead us into the Summer months. To help us on the way Aspens are celebrating 'British Pie Week' (2nd-8th March) by serving up a delicious celebration of one of the nation’s most beloved dishes. A nice comforting warm meal option is available to our students from 'The Streateries' here at Cove School, between Monday 2nd March and Friday 8th March.

#Cove School 10 February

Cove School has achieved a gold-level excellence award in EAL (English as an additional language) for the second time. We are very proud of our diverse community and the award recognises all the great work that takes place here to provide exceptional support for students for whom English is an additional language as well as their families. 32 different languages are spoken by students and staff at Cove and this achievement celebrates the rich cultural and linguistic diversity that strengthens the Cove School community. We are especially proud of our student volunteer buddies who work so hard to welcome and support our new students as they become an integral part of the student body. As one of our buddies, Alfie, said, “I felt pretty good helping someone who needed it. I learnt a lot about him, his culture and story and why he moved to the UK. He was pretty inspirational, actually.”

This week, year 8 students attended a 'Future Forward’ theatre and integrated workshop presentation, looking at options for future routes and how these can lead to a fulfilling future. The session was designed to: - Challenge perceptions, preconceptions and myths surrounding F.E and H.E. - Investigate the learning and training options post 16 and how they can lead to H.E. - Demonstrate the importance of lifelong learning. - Increase understanding of the options available to students post 16 and post 18. - Explore different learning styles and different ways of learning. - Encourage students to plan for a successful future starting with their GCSEs. - Motivate students to fulfil their potential in education and training. #Cove School 30 January

At the beginning of this week, our Shakespeare Schools Festival Crew met with a member of CSSF and took part in a workshop to start making their final steps towards their performance evening on Wednesday 11th March at the Haymarket Theatre in Basingstoke. They thoroughly enjoyed taking part in a range of activities exploring their use of vocal and physical skills, as well as exploring the use of live sound and staging for effect, working towards really making their own unique version of The Tempest. Rehearsals are well underway, and we are now in the final countdown to the big day. It's been so wonderful working with our returning students and welcoming in the new ones too. All members of our crew thoroughly enjoyed this experience and benefited from the progress made.

#Cove School 27 January

Easter Egg Art Competition! Following the success of our Christmas Card Competition, we are delighted to announce that the Art Department will be hosting an Easter Egg Art Competition this term. We would like to encourage your son/daughter to get involved in this creative opportunity. The competition will officially launch on Monday 2nd February, when students can collect a wooden egg from the Art Department. Students are invited to decorate their wooden egg using any materials of their choice, with the theme of “Artists”. We would like students to decorate their egg in the style of an artist they admire. For example, students could create: • Starry Night in the style of Vincent van Gogh • A bold, patterned design inspired by Yayoi Kusama • A colourful, abstract egg inspired by Piet Mondrian • A surreal design in the style of Salvador Dalí • A pop-art inspired egg influenced by Andy Warhol These are just examples, and students are welcome to choose any artist that inspires them. The deadline for entries is Friday 13th March. Completed Easter eggs should be clearly labelled with the student’s name and tutor group and dropped off to Miss Phillips in Room 27 by this date. Judging will take place shortly after the deadline, and prizes will be awarded to one student per year group. The competition is open to all students in Years 7–11. We only have 110 wooden eggs, so first come, first serve! Good luck! We hope many students will take part and enjoy showcasing their creativity.
